Aran Group, a renowned innovator in the packaging industry, is proud to announce the launch of the second-generation Bag-In-Box Premium Flex, the successor to the highly acclaimed Premium Flex BIB – first generation. This new product, developed after extensive research and innovation, sets new standards in the realm of sustainable, long-distance transportation of liquid foods, all while ensuring recyclability as a core feature.

Premium Flex BIB – First Generation: Improved Logistical Distance / Environmentally Friendly / Supreme Food Safety

In early 2021, Aran Group introduced the world to Premium Flex BIB – first generation, a groundbreaking solution that elevated sustainability, practicality, and food safety to new heights. Since this innovative BIB presents dramatic improvement in the logistical distance of the packed product and uncompromising food safety, it quickly gained recognition as a trailblazing solution.

The first-generation Premium Flex bag was engineered to prevent Flex Crack, an issue frequently encountered in long-distance liquid food transportation. Its distinct green color and yellow fitment made it easily recognizable and user-friendly.

Premium Flex – Second Generation:  Metalized Layers Eliminated / Revolutionary Barrier Mechanism / Exceptional Logistical Transport

Building on the success of its predecessor, Aran Group is going to launch in the beginning of 2024 the Premium Flex 2.0, a fully recyclable solution for long-distance transportation of liquid foods.

The most significant innovation in the Premium Flex 2.0 is the elimination of metalized layers. This advanced solution relies solely on a thin layer of EVOH, less than 5%, making it a mono-material packaging that can be fully recycled in the PE recycling stream. It supports logistical transport according to the internal lab test distances of up to 8,000 km, whether by sea, land, or air, a remarkable improvement compared to other bags that allow only 2,000 km.

The traditional solutions for preventing flex cracks require additional materials and packaging operations to fill the empty space in the barrels. However, those solutions do not completely solve the problem. Moreover, the extra packaging materials, such as foamed PS, it is not the best in term of Food Safety Regulation.

Premium Flex 2.0 addresses this challenge with superior effectiveness, eliminating the need for extra packaging and reducing waste. Weighing less than 500 grams per 220-liter bag and composed of four distinct layers, Premium Flex 2.0 offers a unique composition that ensures flexibility and durability for the entire package. This revolutionary product continues to uphold Aran Group’s unwavering commitment to sustainability, setting new industry standards in the fight against flex cracks, and promoting a cleaner, more environmentally responsible future.

Explore Aran Group’s innovative Bag-in-Box (BIB) solutions, a sustainable liquid packaging for dairy and liquid eggs that reduces waste and elevates efficiency

In an increasingly eco-conscious world, Aran Group is actively contributing by manufacturing Bag-in-Box (BIB) packaging solutions, recognized as the most eco-friendly packaging choice. These solutions apply to various liquid foods including milk products and liquid eggs, offering sustainable alternatives that stand in stark contrast to rigid plastic packaging. They ensure secure long-distance transport and contribute to reduced energy consumption by facilitating non-cooling transportation and featuring lighter packaging designs.

Sustainable BIB Solutions for Dairy Products: A Step Towards Environmental Responsibility

With a focus on fluid dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cream, and butter, Aran has packaging options in 5, 10, 15, and 20 liters, catering to the wholesale market, including restaurants, hotels, and large kitchens. Also available in 1000-liter packages per request. These packages are fully recyclable, lightweight, and mono-material bags, replacing bulkier, less eco-friendly alternatives such as rigid plastic packaging. Aran’s BIB solutions can be recycled in the common PE recycling streams since the barrier layer is not metalized and is based on less than 5% EVOH.

Innovative Filling Processes for Aseptic Quality

Diverse BIB solutions cater to varying dairy product needs, shelf-life goals, and storage conditions. For short-term refrigerated storage (2-3 weeks), PE-based bags are ideal, offering full recyclability. For an extended 12-week shelf life without refrigeration, aseptic BIB bags with oxygen barriers are recommended. For this application, the filing process should be in a clean atmosphere environment. This technology serves as a popular solution, particularly in North America. For a longer shelf life of 6 months at room temperature, UHT (Ultra High Temperature) technology is applied. This requires the use of aseptic filling processes using specific equipment.

Effortless Product Dispensing with Tailored Fitments

Aran offers the flexibility of choosing the perfect fitment for your bag, ensuring the convenience of product emptying aligns with consumer preferences. Fitment options include regular pouring caps, suitable for one-time and repeated opening and closing. These caps can be obtained with or without proof of an opening mechanism. Additionally, Aran provides accessories like the Aran CMB, compatible with various dispensers. The CMB not only includes the right cap but also a dedicated tube, allowing a clean, gradual, and controlled product emptying process while safeguarding against impurities.

Catering to Global Filling and Dispensing Needs

Aran caters to a wide array of filling and dispensing machines worldwide. Their extensive experience spans over a decade, working closely with LACTALIS, one of the world’s largest dairy product manufacturers. They provide tailored solutions to various countries where LACTALIS operates, exemplifying their global reach and expertise

Cutting Plastic Waste with Milkit Partnership

One example of Aran’s commitment to sustainability is its partnership with Milkit, a dispensing system revolutionizing liquid handling. This collaboration has had a remarkable environmental impact, replaced traditional plastic jugs, and achieved an impressive 85% reduction in waste. By harnessing Aran’s innovative bags, this eco-conscious solution has the potential to save over 1 billion plastic jugs annually.

Enhancing Hygiene and Efficiency with BIBs in the Liquid Egg Industry

Bag-in-Box (BIB) packaging offers a sustainable packaging solution to the liquid egg market, for hygiene and contamination-free work environments. These liquid egg packages, range from common 5, 10, and 20-liter sizes to 1000-liter containers. An example of that is Aran’s 1000-liter IBC package is used by Unilever for mayonnaise production.

Unlike dairy products, liquid eggs do not undergo high-temperature aseptic sterilization. Instead, dedicated pasteurization equipment gently heats them to 65 degrees Celsius. Since eggs are considered sensitive products, they have a limited shelf life of up to 90 days, requiring refrigeration, and occasionally necessitating aseptic bag usage due to regulatory compliance.

To grasp the profound impact of BIB packaging in the liquid egg market, it’s essential to remember the conventional alternatives. In the past, liquid eggs were poured into regular PE bags or rigid plastic bottles and then subjected to freezing at minus 18 degrees Celsius. This process presented challenges, with the outer parts of the liquid eggs exposed to rapid defrosting while the core remained frozen. The introduction of BIB packaging a few decades ago transformed the industry, rendering the freezing of liquid eggs obsolete.

BIB packaging offers a range of fitments, including standard pouring caps for one-time use or resealing, with options for proof of opening mechanisms. Additionally, caps with “pop-out” spouts provide added flexibility, accommodating various consumer needs and preferences.

Aran’s Strategic Advantages: Delivering Sustainable Solutions Efficiently

Aran Group’s sustainable BIB solutions are augmented by their strategic advantages. With manufacturing facilities in Israel, Spain, and the USA, Aran ensures proximity to major markets, providing quick responses, technical support, and speedy deliveries. This proximity significantly reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation, aligning with Aran’s commitment to sustainability. By being close to their customers and manufacturing locally, Aran ensures a seamless process from production to delivery, meeting market demands efficiently and sustainably.

Aran’s Sustainable Legacy

As the world moves towards a more sustainable future, Aran Group offers innovation and responsibility in the packaging industry. Their BIB solutions not only revolutionize packaging but also emphasize environmental consciousness. By reducing waste, embracing recyclability, and providing efficient, localized service, Aran Group sets a high standard for sustainability, showcasing a responsible and forward-thinking approach that the industry can and should embrace.

Sziget festival is one of the major, most noticed music and culture festivals in Europe. It has been conducted annually in Budapest- Hungary on a small island right in the middle of the Danube river.

It’s a week-long festival offering more than 1000 different performances throughout its short duration.

Lots of global wineries and wine producers come to the festival to showcase their harvest and contribute to the cheerful atmosphere. One of the most consistent participants of this event is Dubicz Winery and Vineyard who last year made unique wines exclusively for this event.

In an interview for the “Budapest Business Journal” Krisztián Kathona, founder and owner of Borháló wine store, speaks about his preparation for this joyful event:

“This is the fourth year Borháló serves festival-goers. The base wines supplied for Sziget events are fresh whether as a spritzer or neat, so we compile these items with the partner winery with regards to consumer needs and feedback. The white and rosé base wines will be flexibly transported to the location in 10-liter bag-in-box units, where the wine will be poured into the glasses of festival-goers from taps, for fast service”.

As always, it’s great to share our great bag-in-box products with worldwide wineries and suppliers and give our contribution to the global growth of Wine-Lovers.

In October 2019, the Tomato Forum of the magazine Food News will be held in Cologne, Germany. This is a global professional conference that brings together manufacturers, marketers, and professionals in the tomato industry. This is the industry’s 8th conference since the first conference that was held Beijing in 2012.

The conference traditionally reflects the planned trend of global manufacturing with the objectives of preventing a glut, strengthening price levels, and maintaining the industry’s profitability while dealing with the global supply and demand.

It seems that this annual gathering of the leading companies is indeed succeeding in controlling the market and stabilizing supply and demand to avoid price reductions caused by glut.

Getting the Most Out of the Tomato.

One of the great challenges facing the industry’s manufacturers is to increase the marketing of tomato products among populations that are not part of the traditional tomato consumer groups.

The answer to this challenge lies in one word: Health. Tomatoes are a worldwide health trend, mainly because of the ingredient lycopene. This is an organic pigment (carotenoid), which gives the tomato its red color. But do not judge lycopene by its cover: this is more than just a pigment; this is a powerful antioxidant that is effective in neutralizing free radicals, and thus protects the body from degenerative diseases, and lowers the risk of cardiovascular diseases. No one questions lycopene’s health benefits, and largely thanks to lycopene, the global consumption of tomatoes is on the rise, in line with the healthy lifestyle being adopted by many population groups, mainly in western nations. Through this health benefit, the manufacturers are competing for markets that are not considered natural tomato consumers, such as many of the Asian nations – other than Japan, where tomatoes have enjoyed great popularity in recent years.

In southeast Asia, even a small step up in the sale of tomato products – sauces, pastes and concentrates – is a big step for the industry. In light of the scale of the population in the Far East, even a relatively small growth in consumption is enough for achieving a significant rise in marketing volume. The question is how to accomplish this.

When Tomatoes and High-Tech Meet

One of the answers to this challenge is coming now from the Israeli food industry – from the LycoRed Group – and is based on advanced studies and innovative technologies. Israeli research has shown that the process of extracting lycopene from tomatoes results in a product that functions as a salt enhancer, enabling the reduction of salt levels in foods. It turns out that through a certain process the lycopene-less tomato can be turned into a natural flavor enhancer that – when added to foods in concentrations appropriately adjusted and customized for each food – will reduce the use of regular salt, and yield the health advantage of lower sodium levels. This innovative development thus enables a significant drop in the use of regular salt, which is consumed in most parts of the world in excessive quantities, and does not benefit human health. We can therefore look optimistically toward the future of the tomato industry: the combination of proper manufacturing and marketing policies, smart developments that increase consumption, and a mantle of packaging solutions such as those provided by Aran, ensures that tomato products will remain on the highway to success.

TOP 40 – tomato processing companies

Tomato News, a major newsletter focusing on the global tomato market, conducted a survey around the top tomato processing companies In 2017/2018 to measure manufacturing capacities. The total capacity of the 40 biggest tomato processing companies in the world amounted to more than 35.7 million metric tonnes (mT) of raw tomato, which is approximately 94% of the volume actually processed during the most recent season (37.8 million mT).

Aran’s contribution to the world’s tomatoes industries

Among these 40 companies, more than 21 of them are respectable clients of Aran Group. Aran is a major contributor to the tomato industry by supplying top quality bag-in-box solutions.

In that list we can state ‘Morning Star’ – (U.S.A) which produces more than 59,000 MT daily, ‘Sugal Group’ – (Portugal, Spain, Chile) which processes 29,000 MT every day. ‘Kagome Global’, ‘Conesa’ and ‘Olam’ are also major players in the tomato global market and they all are using Aran’s packaging solutions.

Aran bags are filled by designated machines adapted to the tomato industry. Aran’s aseptic solution is a major part of the comprehensive procedure of tomato processing, including receipt of the tomato transformed into sauces, pastes or concentrates after cleaning, pasteurization and cooling, until aftermath tomato product is produced. The process of filling the bags is done under sterile conditions to ensure product shelf life.

Aran USA – closest to the market!

At a festive Open House event, Aran USA launched a forward warehouse in Fresno, California. The new warehouse, located at the heart of the West Coast tomato industry, is intended to improve market access for the Aran Group (for tomato products as well as for wine, milk, and other products) made at our South Carolina factory. The event was attended by Aran management and local customers, and Aran USA’s new management was introduced: CEO Michael Caputo, VP North America Sales Stephen Lopiano, and West USA Sales Manager Flavia Takahashi-Flores.

New faces around the world

Aran is going ahead with the Aran2020 plan, designed to strengthen the group’s position among the Top 5 global manufacturers of Bag in Box packaging. The plan has so far included setting up a factory in the USA, investing in production lines, and improving market availability. Over the last two years, Aran has recruited seven direct sales managers for important target markets: Sudhir Jaiswal (India); David Brabo (Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay), Stephen Lopiano (North America), Flavia Takahashi-Flores (West USA), Charlene Bloquel (France), Fernando Yague (Spain), and Alirio Mota (Portugal), the last three of whom specialize in BIB packaging for the wine, milk, and egg industries in Europe.

Long-distance Tahini

One of the most popular foods in the global healthy eating trend is hummus. The success of this Middle Eastern spread in the American market has also increased demand for raw tahini, an essential ingredient of the product. Israel is one of the world’s leading exporters of high-quality raw tahini, made from Ethiopian sesame seeds. Aran supplies these tahina manufacturers with 1,000-liter bags from the NyFlex series – highly impermeable packaging made from multi-layer nylon featuring a unique discharge technology, tailored to the oily texture of tahini, and incorporating special welding according to the transportation requirements.

Packaging for the world of nanography

In addition to packaging for liquid food products, Aran also develops innovative packaging for industries such as pharma, reactors, ink, 3D printing, and more. A partnership was recently launched with Landa Digital Printing, which has developed groundbreaking digital printers. These machines are based on nanographic technology and offer a high-quality, economical alternative for high-volume, rapid offset printing. Aran supplies special ink packaging for these printers, which were developed in-house and feature smart and extra-strong multi-layer sheets.

Blue Liner: Play it safe

In response to Food Safety Regulations recommendations, Aran has begun to incorporate a blue liner in all its products. The inner blue layer allows easy and clear identification if some plastic falls into the contents of the package (when the bag is cut, for example). This step reflects the global trend for food quality and safety and meets market demands and international standards.

The Group managers presented the current and future directions of growth according to the Group’s strategic plan – a five-year plan, in which, from the start, Aran plans to expand its activity in Europe, launch a new production plant in the US, and make a marketing breakthrough in the American market. David Woolford, Chairman of Aran’s Board of Directors, Lior Mor, the CEO of the Aran Group, and Felix Mallul, VP of Sales and Marketing, spoke at the convention’s opening session. They presented the Group’s current vision and shared technological, strategic and commercial information with the agents. The subsequent sessions included lectures on a variety of professional topics given by senior members of the global BIB industry.

On Monday, the agents visited Aran Packaging’s production plant at Kibbutz Nahshon, where they heard talks and lectures from Company members and guest lecturers. Tuesday was devoted to a visit to Acre and Haifa, including a walking tour of the renowned Baha’i Gardens, entertainment and team-building. The convention connected Aran’s marketing personnel from all over the world and created professional, personal and social connections that mixed business with pleasure, in the best tradition of Aran’s international conventions, which have been held every three years since 2006 in various places in the world.

Aran Group now manufactures high-performance bags for Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) and bag-in-box (BIB) applications in the United States through its Aran U.S.A. division. The Israeli packaging company completed a $5.2 million investment in a new production facility in Greer, South Carolina 18 months ago and is now fully operational, with strategically placed warehouse and distribution centers in California and in Ontario, Canada.

“We sell products in over 40 countries worldwide and our new plant and two distribution centers enable us to provide faster service and support our customers across the Americas,” says Felix Mallul, VP of Sales and Marketing.

Aran provides specially engineered bags from one quart to 300 gallons or more for aseptic and non-aseptic packaging of fruits and vegetables, purees, sauces and condiments, dairy products, liquid eggs, edible oils, wines and water. In industries like food and beverage, where protecting perishable ingredients and nutritional values take precedence, Aran engineers and produces optimal bags, laminates, and fitments to maximize freshness and preservation while ensuring safe transportation.

A long-time customer, The Morning Star Company – the world’s leading tomato processor of high quality pastes, sauces, purees, and diced tomatoes – uses Aran’s 55- and 300-gallon paste bags to ship tomato paste, its leading product, to customers around the world. The metallized barrier bags are aseptically filled and sealed with the Franrica closure. This ensures that Morning Star’s tomato paste keeps its consistency from the time of processing. It helps protect critical characteristics of the preservative-free tomato paste, which include color, flavor, texture and pH.

“Although Aran has expanded production to the United States, we have been working with the company for over 10 years,” says Rob Salinas, Packaging Innovation and Engineering Manager at The Morning Star Company. “We appreciate Aran’s proactive services such as continually bringing us new ideas and innovation to further protect our products, improve logistics to speed deliveries to market and enhance our operations.”

“Now that Aran is manufacturing here in the States, we know our collaboration will be even stronger,” Salinas added.
